Community Education and Outreach

Community outreach at the MiPDC is focused on promoting poison prevention. We increase public awareness of reported poisonings and the services we provide to the public and professionals who care for poisoned patients statewide.

Evidence-based education services provided by the MiPDC are designed to empower individuals of all ages to reduce poisoning risks and to act when poisonings occur.

Michigan Poison & Drug Information Center’s Annual Overdose Awareness Event

Every August in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, the MiPDC and our coalition partners unite for this annual event aimed at raising awareness about the effects of drug overdoses on both individuals and communities across our state and nation.

This year, we gathered at Spirit Plaza in Detroit, Michigan, on International Fentanyl Awareness Day, August 21, 2026. We were grateful to be joined by the Wayne Mobile Health Unit, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Care of Southeastern Michigan, and the Detroit Recovery Project Inc.

All activities at this annual event are free of charge to the public. Offerings included overdose rescue training provided by the Detroit Recovery Project Inc., naloxone distribution from the MiPDC, educational services from all event partners, and a closing remembrance for those lost to substance overdose.

Check out the photos for highlights of the activities.
