I am a RN, BSN, and Certified Specialist in Poison Information – I have been a nurse for 30 years, working in both the hospital and outpatient settings. Pediatrics was my chosen specialty- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Unit, and Pediatric Dialysis and Renal Replacement Therapies.
I started at the Michigan Poison Center 10 years ago. I was amazed at the diversity and complexity of what the job entails. I learned quickly the enormous difference one person can make to a situation for a person at home or in a healthcare setting.
We at the Poison Center, the only one in the state, take a lot of pride in being able to serve the state of Michigan. The staff here, composed of highly competent nurses, pharmacists, physicians and toxicologists, provide high level, expert care. The knowledge and level of expertise necessary for this position is exceptional! I love that I learn something new every day.
Outside of the Poison Center, I am a parent and an aunt. I have pets- 4 golden retrievers that I consider my other children. I enjoy going up North. Family is extremely important to me- so I understand and sympathize when callers are worried about family members being exposed to something potentially dangerous to their health. That is why I do this job and why I love it…to help keep you and your loved ones safe.
